Supreme Court Sides with Trump in Birthright Citizenship Case, Limits Lower Court Powers

 In a significant ruling on June 27, the U.S. Supreme Court determined that lower courts overstepped their authority by imposing nationwide holds on restrictions to birthright citizenship — handing a temporary legal win to former President Donald Trump. While the Court did not rule on whether citizenship can be permanently denied to children born to undocumented parents, the decision could set a precedent that makes it harder to block future federal policies. In a sharp dissent, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson warned that the Court’s actions could erode trust in judicial institutions and undermine the rule of law.
