Lyndon “LB” Byers, the tough-as-nails enforcer who racked up over 1,000 career penalty minutes and was a fan favorite during nine seasons with the Boston Bruins, has passed away at age 61—according to the team’s announcement. Byers also starred in two Stanley Cup Finals in 1988 and 1990, later captaining the mic at Boston’s WAAF radio station for 25 years and making cameos in shows like Rescue Me and films like Shallow Hal. Born in Nipawin, Saskatchewan, he died on July 4 in Massachusetts; his wife, Annie, confirmed his death in a heartfelt social media tribute. The Bruins said they’re deeply saddened and call him “forever a part of our family.” A memorial service will be scheduled soon.
