In a rare face-off, Marvel's The Fantastic Four: First Steps and DC's Superman launched within two weeks of each other, reigniting the superhero rivalry. Fantastic Four debuted with a strong $118 million domestically and $100 million internationally, totaling $218 million globally. Meanwhile, Superman opened earlier in July with a slightly higher domestic gross of $122 million and $95 million internationally, bringing its global total to $217 million. Despite Fantastic Four's impressive opening, Superman edged out with a marginally higher global total, solidifying its position as the top comic-book movie opener of the year.
