Barack Obama Speaks Out: Texas GOP Accused of Gerrymandering Ahead of 2026 Elections

Former President Barack Obama has entered the national redistricting battle, warning Americans not to look away as Texas Republicans push for aggressive new congressional maps. In a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter), Obama called out GOP efforts to redraw district lines in a way that could unfairly swing five House seats in their favor ahead of the critical 2026 midterm elections. “We can’t lose focus on what matters,” Obama said. “Right now, Republicans in Texas are trying to gerrymander district lines to unfairly win five seats in next year’s midterm elections.” His remarks come amid increasing pressure from Donald Trump on Texas Governor Greg Abbott and the state legislature to deliver a political advantage for the GOP.
