The pontiff called for the release of hostages and urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza, where famine is spreading and millions are displaced. His plea comes after mass protests in Israel, where thousands demanded an end to the war and the return of hostages. Since the conflict erupted on October 7, 2023, more than 62,000 Palestinians have been killed and much of Gaza lies in ruins, while Israeli families continue to grieve the loss of 1,200 lives and the capture of 251 hostages.
